Many of Cipriano Vargas’ donors supported a proposed .5 cent sales tax measure through the group “Let’s Go San Diego” which attempted to put the sales tax on the November ballot which would only require a simple majority to pass it rather than two-thirds.

- Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer who voted for the VMT
- Congressman Mike Levin
- Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear who also serves as the SANDAG chair and supported the VMT
